
Raymond Apple was born in Melbourne Australia in 1935.
He graduated from Melbourne University in arts and law.
He was appointed headmaster of the United Jewish Education Board, and initiated correspondence courses for children living in the outback areas of Australia and New Zealand.
He moved to London and after graduating from Jews' College, spent four years as Religious Director of the Association for Jewish Youth.
He was minister of Bayswater Synagogue before being appointed as minister of The Hampstead Synagogue in 1964.
In 1967, to commemorate the Synagogue's 75th anniversary, he wrote the book "The Hampstead Synagogue 1892-1967".
In 1972 he resigned from The Hampstead Synagogue, in order to return to Australia.
Rabbi Apple was the minister at The Great Synagogue in Sydney until his retirement at the end of December 2004.
