Dina Brawer – Scholar in Residence

Dina Brawer

Chanukah and the Varieties of Religious Experience: An imaginary conversation between the Sefat Emet and William James

Shiur and Seudah Shlishit

Dina will deliver a shiur after the morning service examining the nature of religion, ritual and the quest for spirituality. William James and Rabbi Yehudah Aryeh Leib of Gur (author of the Sefat Emet) both wrote extensively about the nature of religious experience., and the issues they raise are as relevant today as when they wrote in the late 19th century. Taking as our point of departure a homily of the Sefat Emet on the theme of Chanukah, Dina will bring these two great thinkers into dialogue.

And later on Shabbat, Dina will join members for a 20s and 30s Seudah Shlishit hosted by Shana Boltin. Contact Candice now for details on time and location if you would like to come!
