10 teams compete to be ‘Cholent Fest Master’

Hampstead United Synagogue hosted its third annual Cholent Fest, in an event that has been dubbed “the world’s largest celebration of cholent”.

This year, 10 teams competed for the title of ‘Cholent Fest Master’, with 250 people attending the event.

The steamy competition was judged by Harry Lomas OBE of the Grove Hotel, formerly the personal chef to the Queen.

At his side were cholent experts Jack Bendahan of Kosher Deli and Cholent Fest founder Josh Zaitschek.

There was also a food market, including wine tastings and a biltong station. “I look forward to this night all year long,” said Josh Zaitschek. “Seeing our amazing community coming together to enjoy the foods that have been there with us throughout the ages, makes me feel all warm and chulenty!”
