If you were at Hampstead last Shabbat (15 August), you will have heard Rabbi Harris talk about a new initiative by rabbis in Israel to address the issues raised by conversion and those immigrants and children of immigrants to Israel that have discovered that they are not considered halachicly Jewish for a variety of reasons.

This story has been big in Israel for some time, but is only now receiving attention from the UK press. For those interested in a bit more detail, this week\’s Economist has a useful article.
