We are inviting all 20s and 30s to join us for a special Shabbat lunch with Rabbi Michael and Judith Harris to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut. The lunch will include a short shiur and discussion: Israel at 70: Pre-Yom Ha’atzmaut Reflections
As Israel reaches its seventieth birthday, the issue of its precise religious significance remains unresolved in the traditional Jewish world. Is the State of Israel, as the official Israeli Chief Rabbinate prayer states, the very beginning of the messianic redemption? Or is its religious significance in the fact of Jewish sovereignty after 2000 years? Or is it in the application of areas of Jewish law that have not been relevant in two thousand years in the Diaspora?
